After completing his education as a Science Graduate, Sudhir Mehta joined his father and founder of Torrent Group, Shri Uttambhai N Mehta (U.N. Mehta), in managing the affairs of Torrent Pharmaceuticals.

Sudhir Mehta’s dynamic leadership and sharp business acumen was instrumental in scaling up the Pharma business overseas. This not only benefited the Company, but also catalysed opening of new frontiers for the Indian Pharmaceutical industry to go global.

His farsightedness was instrumental in establishing Torrent Pharma’s Research and Development Centre in Ahmedabad, commissioned in 1996. This Centre has contributed significantly with its research-based, innovative pharmaceutical products across multiple therapeutic areas.

Sudhir Mehta’s strategic vision extended beyond pharmaceuticals, as he was quick to foresee emerging opportunities in the power sector.

He spearheaded Torrent’s entry into the power sector by commissioning a dual-fuel combined cycle power project – country’s second Private Sector plant after economic liberalisation. Under his leadership, in the subsequent years Torrent Power acquired key assets and established itself as a leader in the country’s power sector.

With his dynamic and strategic mindset, Sudhir Mehta propelled the Group to new heights.

Under his able guidance, Torrent Group further diversified into clean energy space by venturing into City Gas Distribution business in 2018. Torrent Gas is today one of the leading CGD companies in India.

As an astute business leader, Sudhir Mehta is known for his ability to anticipate market trends and adapt to changing business environments. He fostered a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in the Group, while staying true to the Core Values inherited from the Founder of the Group U.N. Mehta.
